The Two Ways
Two ways lead people to God. One is self-knowledge. That is why Socrates cautioned, “Know Thyself.” The other way is selfless service, which is also called Love, Kindness or Unselfish Love. An example is Jesus, who is Love, Divine Love. That is why Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. He is the Door, the Key and the Porter. And none is able to come into God’s Presence, without Jesus (Love).

Which Way Is Better?
To some people, contemplative self-knowledge may seem better; and to others, selfless service. Generally, selfless service is preferable because it is easier and readily available and possible to all mankind. However, contemplative method makes you experience and attain heaven, even here on earth.

Meaning Of Selfless Service
Selfless service means doing things for the good of others, without complaining and without expecting fruits of action (rewards). The selfless person does not claim doership for his services, because all actions are performed by Forces of Nature, which act for man and through man. These Forces of Nature are intelligent potencies endowed in Nature by God. Therefore, the selfless person gives God the glory.

Importance Of Selfless Services
  1. It frees one from desires, which give rise to anger and disappointments when the desires are not fulfilled.
  2. It gives peace, poise, rest, joy and equanimity for our souls.
  3. It binds humanity in love.
  4. It unites one with God. That is why Jesus said, “He who saves his life, will loose it; and he who looses his, life will save it.” Many Christians do not know or understand this. Besides, none is ready to practice unselfish love. A drop of water from the ocean is so powerless and can easily be lost or misused. But, when the drop rejoins the ocean, it becomes one with the ocean, and then it can have and use the mighty powers of the ocean. You attain God by being selfless in service.
  5. It frees one from the cycle of birth and death (reincarnation), because the selfless person no longer has selfish attachment.
  6. Everyone can easily prosper by serving others. This is a spiritual law of life. Service is the key to prosperity.
  7. One way for a person to become free from sin is by serving others before himself.
  8. Those who gain without benefiting others, gain sin; and those who eat without giving others, eat sin.
  9. God is present in selfless service, as Love, Divine Love and Loving-Kindness.
Spiritual Equanimity - Spiritual Equilibrium
This is a balanced state of mind, which becomes manifest as peace, poise, rest, composure, calmness, self-control, level-headedness …. A person who has attained such a great and glorious position:
  1. Remains calm in success and failure.

  2. Is not offended by disappointments.

  3. Is not aggrieved by death or calamity.

  4. Is not influenced or moved by fears. Fear is unnecessary, and it is a poison, a deception.

  5. Is at rest, while in action or inaction. He is actively calm and calmly active.

  6. Is glorious in spirit and joyful at heart.

How To Attain Spiritual Equanimity (Spiritual Equilibrium)
Everyone can attain the glorious state of peace and poise by:
  1. Being moderate in every activity: he does not eat too much or too little; he does not over sleep or under sleep. He does not play too much or too little. And so on. Those who eat too much develop all kinds of sickness, and those who eat too little become malnourished and problem to the society. But the person moderate in eating is free, happy and agile. The same is true of all engagements.

  2. Engaging in selfless services.

  3. By meditating on the ultimate, which is God, the Supreme Being.

  4. By studying and obeying the scriptures.

  5. By beholding God in all things, both animate and inanimate.

Body and Spirit
The spirit animates and dominates the body.
